Here Technologies has entered into a groundbreaking $1 billion partnership with Amazon Web Services (AWS), establishing a 10-year agreement to enhance automotive technologies. This collaboration combines AWS’s cloud infrastructure with Here’s advanced mapping solutions, aiming to accelerate the development of software-defined vehicles, advanced driver assistance systems (ADAS), and automated driving (AD).
As a key part of the partnership, Here will integrate AWS’s natural language processing and generative AI capabilities into its SceneXtract software. Consequently, this tool will enable automakers to convert real-world environments into simulation-ready scenes quickly, reducing time-to-market and simplifying ADAS and AD training.
Furthermore, the collaboration offers automakers a competitive edge by streamlining data-intensive operations and improving scalability.
“Location technology is central to the automotive revolution,” noted Mike Nefkens, CEO of Here Technologies. “By merging Here’s industry-leading mapping intelligence with AWS’s global cloud expertise, we’re giving automakers the tools they need to transform vehicles into dynamic software platforms.”
In addition, AWS CEO Matt Garman emphasized the broader implications: “This partnership underscores how AWS accelerates innovation in manufacturing and connected vehicles. Together with Here, we’re empowering automakers to reimagine the driving experience with AI-powered mapping applications.”
Notably, Here will expand its mapping services—already covering 200 territories and supporting 44 million vehicles—using AWS’s robust cloud technologies. These solutions will also become available on the AWS Marketplace, allowing third-party developers to leverage them for transportation and logistics innovations.
Founded in 1985 and now owned by German automotive leaders, Here has a legacy of pushing industry boundaries. With AWS’s partnership, the company is positioned to lead the transformation of intelligent, software-driven vehicles. This collaboration sets the stage for a new era in mobility, prioritizing efficiency, scalability, and cutting-edge technology.
