Comwired to launch advanced DNS services under new domain

The acquisition of a premium domain name has one web services provider looking to extend its offerings in a big way, helping to pave the way for more user-friendly technical offerings in the world of often confusing but always necessary domain name services (DNS).

“This opportunity was the next step in solidifying our position in the DNS marketplace while also giving clients a peace of mind that they are being supported by a highly-robust, and economically practical DNS solution. Like many of our customers, we pride ourselves on being a technology- and service-oriented business. The DNS.com domain is a powerful asset which will help expand our online community through increased name recognition and memorability.” – Comwired CEO Daniel Kimball

Managed domain name and DNS services provider Comwired announced earlier this week that it had successfully acquired DNS.com and plans to build an advanced hosted DNS service to be launched via the new web address. DNS, the hierarchical naming system used for resources connected to the internet, serves as the connecting backbone of the internet itself, translating the domain names we commonly use to access web sites into numerical IP addresses in order to properly direct traffic, among other feats of technical magic.

The acquisition of DNS.com for an unspecified amount by Comwired represents one of the last steps needed to be taken before the company can begin rolling out a safer and more reliable DNS service to existing and future customers alike; the simultaneous launch of new pricing structures for existing services with a focus on the enterprise market is proof that Comwired is committed to taking their business to the next level on all fronts. With DNS services currently geared towards high volume web sites that require the utmost in protection against DNS-based attacks that could cause downtime and malevolent redirection, Comwired sells its hosted DNS products both directly to businesses and end-users as well as via resellers predominantly consisting of web hosting firms and domain registrars.

In light of recent efforts such as the “DNS is Sexy” campain by Dyn Inc. meant to popularize DNS services in order to make its offerings more mainstream, Comwired has seen a 700 percent increase in traffic visiting its DNS service pages. With products aimed at offering top-notch enterprise-class DNS services with the addition of geo-aware capabilities, the company will harness the popularity and memorability of their new domain to attempt to make services currently viewed as behind-the-scenes and too technical for average users a consumer-friendly product.
