Amazon Web Services (AWS) is preparing for its highly anticipated annual conference, AWS re:Invent 2024, set to start on November 30 in Las Vegas. With a packed agenda running through December 6, the event will offer attendees an opportunity to explore AWS’s strategic advancements under the leadership of its new CEO, Matt Garman.
During his keynote address on December 3 at 8 a.m. PT, Garman will outline how AWS plans to solidify its leadership across cloud computing, generative AI, and more.
Garman takes the helm during a competitive era. AWS continues to face challenges from Microsoft and Google in the generative AI space, even as it reports “multi-billion-dollar” revenue from generative AI services. The company recently strengthened its partnership with Anthropic to spearhead model training and AI chip development.
However, delays in AWS’s Olympus AI model and recent leadership departures have raised questions about its ability to maintain its dominance. Garman aims to address these concerns and showcase AWS’s vision for the future.
While generative AI remains a focal point — with over 500 AI sessions on the agenda — Garman emphasizes that this year’s event spans more than AI. Innovations across compute, storage, databases, and analytics will also take center stage, reaffirming AWS’s commitment to advancing its full cloud portfolio.
Attendees can expect appearances from key leaders, including Amazon CEO Andy Jassy. On December 4, AWS VP Swami Sivasubramanian will present new AI and data services, while Amazon CTO Werner Vogels will conclude the event on December 5 with a forward-looking discussion on tech trends for 2025.
AWS re:Invent 2024 serves as a platform for the company to demonstrate how it empowers businesses to build for the future while navigating an increasingly competitive cloud landscape.
