AIS, Oracle plant digital roots in Thailand with local-first cloud platform

AIS and Oracle have joined forces to roll out a cloud platform that operates entirely within Thailand’s borders. With a 4 billion baht investment behind it, this isn’t just another tech rollout—it’s a direct answer to what many Thai businesses and government agencies have needed for years: real control over their data without sending it overseas or through foreign systems.

Given today’s heightened concerns about data privacy and digital risk, the arrival of AIS Cloud, powered by Oracle Cloud Infrastructure, feels right on cue. Built to meet Thai regulatory standards, the platform handles modern AI workloads while keeping sensitive data firmly within the country. For many organizations, especially in sectors like finance, healthcare, and public services, that shift from offshore to onshore could mark a turning point.

Crucially, the platform doesn’t just follow regulations—it understands the local business landscape. AIS has integrated support for Thai baht billing, native-language contracts, and local customer service teams who know the context of their users. Instead of offering a rebranded global product, AIS designed a solution that actually fits how Thai organizations function day to day.

According to Phupa Akavipat, AIS’s Chief Enterprise Business Officer, digital infrastructure “owned and operated by Thais” will be essential for the country’s long-term resilience. That message lands at a time when Thailand is under growing pressure to carve out its own space in a cloud landscape still shaped by overseas giants.

So far, the platform has already cleared a major hurdle—earning a 3-star certification from Thailand’s Digital Economy Promotion Agency. It’s a strong sign that the system meets the country’s expectations for performance, security, and compliance. DEPA CTO Passakon Prathombutr added that the platform will help both startups and ministries compete more confidently in today’s data-heavy economy.

In parallel with the cloud launch, AIS also rolled out a Network-as-a-Service platform. Customers get granular control here—they can ramp bandwidth up or down across both 5G and fiber as operational needs shift. No waiting on support tickets or fixed plans; adjustments happen in real time. With the integrated cloud platform, you’re looking at an end-to-end infrastructure stack tailored specifically for the Thai market—not just some imported, cookie-cutter solution.

AIS is doing more than rolling out hardware. They’re building a network ecosystem that aligns with national requirements: robust security, high flexibility, and local governance at the core. The whole system’s engineered to deliver performance with oversight, not just raw tech for tech’s sake.
