In a strategic move to enhance artificial intelligence (AI) capabilities, Inspur Cloud Services and Cyberport have inked a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to develop cutting-edge AI infrastructure in Hong Kong. This partnership not only aims to build a state-of-the-art computing cluster but also seeks to foster resource-sharing and collaborative innovation across the region.

While details about the cluster’s capacity and exact location remain undisclosed, the project is poised to elevate Hong Kong’s standing in AI research and development. Moreover, it aligns with the city’s ongoing efforts to solidify its position as a global tech and financial hub.

Cyberport CEO Rocky Cheng emphasized the transformative potential of the initiative, highlighting the imminent launch of a Supercomputing Center. Furthermore, he pointed to the Hong Kong government’s HK$3 billion ($385.43 million) subsidy for scientific research as a crucial factor driving these advancements. “With over 330 startups already thriving at Cyberport, Inspur Cloud’s entry will accelerate the ecosystem’s growth and unlock greater potential for high-performance computing and industry applications,” Cheng remarked.

For Inspur Cloud, this collaboration represents its official foray into the Hong Kong market. The company plans to capitalize on the region’s unique position as an international financial center to expand its AI technologies and services globally.

Additionally, Liu Jiyong, General Manager of Inspur Group, stressed the importance of building an open and collaborative ecosystem. “We aim to work closely with the HKSAR Government, universities, and enterprises to drive AI innovation,” he stated.

This partnership not only underscores Cyberport’s ambition to become a hub for AI innovation but also highlights Inspur’s role in fortifying the region’s tech landscape. By pooling their expertise and resources, the two organizations promise to deliver advanced tools and capabilities, ultimately solidifying Hong Kong’s role in the global AI race.
