Cutting Costs

I just saved myself $68/mo and I didn't switch to Geicho 😉🤣
Although I am keeping Plesk for now, I got rid of WHMCS and one of my servers. I moved several domains and consolidated things to cut down on the number of servers I have to keep. I got rid of about 12 of my personal domains as well and I'm moving some of those sites to subdomains. I may get rid of more. I'm selling them to try to get what I can out of them. So with that in place it should save me around $1,000/yr.

This will save me a huge amount of money in the long haul.
I'm using Box Billing which I think is great for the price - FREE! Granted they have their links in it, but I can deal with that.

I have more work to do with the Box Billing site to complete it, but I have my clients and orders transferred. It took some time but to me it was worth every minute. One of the nice things is that I could back date everything as though the account existed before I installed Box Billing.

I recently learned about BoxBilling and will be installing and testing it, so if anyone needs help in the future, look for videos on YouTube 😀

I was very pleased and impressed to find something free that would do what this does. There is a learning curve to it since it's not highly intuitive. But anyone with a brain will figure it out. You basically add hosting plans then you add products to the plans. When I cancelled WHMCS, although I think it's a great product, I told them it costs to much. For the person starting out, Box Billing is a great solution. And even for already established companies I think Box Billing is a great company. Now I have something I can put on as many sites as I need and it doesn't kill my bank account.

Nice work. Saving $1,000/year and simplifying your setup is a big win. BoxBilling is underrated for what it offers (especially free), and keeping Plesk makes sense if it works for you.

Although I would like to get rid of the expense for Plesk, it does do a lot. When I ran my first server I ran it on a dedicated SDSL line out of my home in the late 90's on Red Hat Linux. I didn't host websites at that time, I only ran my own on that box. I did it by editing the configuration files to set up the websites, emails, email forwarders and whatever else I needed. I also ran an online radio station. I had a Windoze computer that I streamed the music from across my intranet. Having the equipment including the router right in my home was very handy. The SDSL line didn't cost an awful lot if you compare it to a Tiered 1 line at that time. I remember we used to run servers on a wire with 1.5gbps which would accommodate 1,000 concurrent connections. Of course things are much faster now.

One of many things I like about it is that it's free and open source. I've been able to alter some of the code and add things I want on it and in it.

only real issue is on top of their page 'Warning! as of the time of writing (10-30-22), BoxBilling is no longer being actively maintained. FOSSBilling is a fork of it that is being actively developed. If you do decide to use BoxBilling, please be aware that it's current state has multiple bugs and vulnerabilities'

Yep, but I like BoxBilling. It's open source and I can actively maintain it anyway since I'm a programmer.

He just sells his services here 😀
Exactly as a majority of hosts will just but these programmes to do what they want and not many will redesign them. if i saw the 'no long maintained notice' then i would not use it as to keep getting a programmer to main it would not be cost effective, if you have to do that you may as well just pay the monthly fee for WHMCS etc.

Especially since the last version was 2022 and states not tested with PHP 8.1... so PHP 8.0 is supported which went EOL 18 months ago? I just don't understand the logic here.

To me anyone installing software etc. that is no longer maintained is asking for trouble as you have no idea of any vulnerabilities and dont care about security of your servers and protecting clients from vulnerabilities. why skip on costs when it comes security.

That's a personal view, but not true in my case.

You might be interested to know that I have not gotten any customers at all from this website. I come here to try and share value in what I do to help other companies. Maybe improve your view on things instead of casting false accusations.

but how many people will install such software etc. and then shout for help if they get hacked etc. its the same when people will buy cheap everything unlimited for $2 a yr hosting off ebay and then run to us asking if we can get their sites back as the host has done a runner. If you running a business like hosting where you are looking after other peoples files/businesses why skimpt on software so to cause issues down the line. WHMCS $29.95 pm and updated on a regular basis. Boxbilling FREE but no long maintained. employ a programmer approx. $50 per hr. the maths speak for themselves to which is the better option

Don't use it then. All I'm doing here is sharing information about what I'm doing. Nobody else is obligated to do it.
