Both are good, each has its own strengths.
Xen comes in 2 flavours: Xen-PV and Xen-HVM. The difference between them is that the latter is full virtualization, allowing you to run your own kernel unlike PV.
Xen usually provides better isolation than KVM, so you can track the abusers far more easily. I personally prefer Xen everytime, but being the older one, it is now being forgotten due to KVM. Everyone prefers KVM.

Great question. It's tough to decipher because they seem to be both the same in performance. I used to use Xen years ago but moved to KVM. I find it is just better performance for my needs but I mainly use Linux. If you will be using Windows-based cloud servers it may be better to use Xen.

This is kind of like asking which is better, Android or iOS. What, specifically are you looking for performance wise? What are you looking to accomplish? With what hardware.
A forum is not the best place to get answers to that question. You need to consult with an industry professional and setup your service that way, not by guessing based on what some anonymous forum member tells you is good (which is likely not the truth).

In that case it likely won't be the factor that will has much if any impacts on your experiences. Given that XEN HVM and KVM are in their basic components are the same.
BUT the machine your on? The density management of said machine? and other factors? You bet that they matter MUCH more than the virtualization used. Even a GOOD OpenVZ VPS can outrun a BAD XEN/KVM VPS as a result of overloading and etc.

For you OpenVZ is more than enough .. As majority of the kernel modules are pre-installed .. So you need not put lot of efforts ...

KVM it’s an open source choice and consists of a loadable kernel module. This module provides the virtualization infrastructure core and it also provides a processor specific module, and it's my personal choice.

KVM with full virtualization is faster than XEN. Device access is faster in KVM than XEN.

KVM has been a solid choice for us, it gives users a lot more flexibility and control.
KVM is the choice of most of the Linux distributions, which means they've all sat down and considered KVM the best,
They will, therefore, be spending their time developing against this platform.
If you bet against the industry, you will find yourself in a smaller and smaller group over time.
Unless you have a good reason to go Xen, you would be advised to go with the industry.

KVM Virtualization is the best
Many companies will go for KVM. XEN is also good, but usually for internal use in companies. Not really for VPS commercialization. Because to be more efficient, and to be able to use the computer resources at a good level, the company will try to use one hypervisor which can take few computer resources and allocated it to many virtual machines. Now there is a new technology of which helps you to only virtualize the kernel (creation of containers) rather than virtualizing the whole system.
