Hello,

For case study purpose i am asking here in which country in Europe you want to be hosted but is not available at the moment ? for which reason ?

The main reasons for hosting not in UK, NL, SE, Germany or Switzerland would be protection from DMCA for hosting copyrighted content. I doubt this will be blatantly admitted on an open forum.

Hi !

Thank you for your answer and that's not what i meant.
The idea is not to find a country with a different policy regarding DMCA but to find countries where there are not much choice regarding type of service ( vm / physical server / mail service / etc ....) near the localisation of the users.

Had an interesting read a couple of years ago about some development in Iceland which was a big step forward for real Green Hosting and the project seemed really interesting. Don't know what happened with it though... ;)

If you mean it this way, there are datacenters in nearly all European countries and most of cities are connected to 100 Mbit wired Ethernet and decent 3g-4g Wi-Fi. The only exception may be Balcan countries or former Yugoslavia due to lasting unrest there.

Former Yugoslavia maybe and some of the Balcans but there are exceptions to that rule. My home country for example, Bulgaria, is still in the top countries regarding internet connection speed in the world (yes, world). As far as I know Romanians have a pretty strong Ethernet there too (don't quote me on that tho). :rolleyes2

I do know Bulgaria has decent Internet connection, while some parts of the US do not have any :) Anyways, nearly all countries of EU have good Internet coverage

Hosting content in any European country just to avoid DMCA complaints is not something the local market and web hosts would appreciate.

We host server in UK but not for hiding from DMCA, etc. (I don't know why people think that hosting on UK/NL server means their content is protected from DMCA.. Most of good provider will remove content If they receive a report of copyrighted/pirated content.)

Most of peoples purchase server in UK/NL because of less latency for them.

When you go to their homepage, do you feel like you are looking at a professional company that you could trust with your money and website? If no. Why?

Majority of the European countries have good ISP`s and datacenters located. Only Serbia and some other countries have less datacenters to choose for hosting.

That's one of the reasons, but another reason is cost. A server is far cheaper in the USA than in the UK and Europe.

I am in the UK, but my servers are in Chicago and Los Angeles.

This is because

1) It is approx. 60% cheaper like for like compared to UK servers.
2) Everytime i tried a UK server i had many issues.

you will also find DMCA is a USA thing, so outside of the USA a DMCA report can be ignored, but most datacenters and hosts i know within Europe will act on a DMCA report, even though they are not obligated to do so.

I have used datacenters in both the US and UK the US is definetly Cheaper Although If you go with a company like OVH (not truly recommended for any important or web hosting company) the price is comparable in both their north america location and france locations.

But in general US companies tend to have lower prices and better service this is due to some cities have 10 or more datacenters that are competing.

It has nothing to do with this. the reason is that power (electricity) is far cheaper in the USA than in the UK and Europe.

their are many datacenters in the London and Kent area of the UK, but prices are still high due to high utility charges

Each European location is having its own privacy as well as free speech rules and regulations. Your hosted content will help you decide location.

We host a server in Sofia - Bulgaria and this works great for eastern countries of Yugoslavia, close to Bulgaria. Another one is in France and that works pretty well, too.

Maybe Finland or other Balkan countries

would love to have my servers in the UK as this is where i am based, but they are far too expensive and the ones i have tried in the UK have always had issues.
all my clients apart from 1 (in France) are in the UK, but i have a server in Chicago and LA and both work fine.
