Like the tittle suggests,do you prefer your host to give you extra help like uploading your database files, install wp,and helping you creating databases.
What do you think about such host ???????

I am always in favour of any help I can get. I might understand a lot of things, but since I don't always stay on top of them, I much rather an experienced support technician execute on certain tasks.

Of course that kind of care takes dedication, effort and, most importantly, time. Anyone considering going that way should be highly conscious of their operating costs.

This depends on who your provider is and on what plan you've purchased. If you've purchased an unmanaged plan, do not expect any help. Even a managed service doesn't necessarily include these tasks.

So far as preferences, of course extra help is always welcomed.

Don't expect provider to provide extra support other than hosting service.

If a provider is willing to provide extra support like uploading files, create database etc. for you, it's good; if a provider is not willing to, do not blame anything because he is just HOSTING PROVIDER.

Unless you get Managed support or a hosting company that is willing to do the extra work for free. You are not going to get any extra support.

The hosting services can be mainly categories into two, managed and unmanaged. If you are opting a managed service and you need to migrate your website from your previous host, most of the managed services include this. Creating the website by installing WP and transferring the database. All the above are extremely free in the case of managed services in some of the hosting providers. And if you are running on un-managed plan this may also be taken as hourly task.

Sure, call it an addon.
livechat - Phone (toll free) , we've got that covered, but not in the basic hosting.

If it's something you can do yourself quickly and easily - I wouldn't expect them to it for me.

If it's something I can't do myself [but it is possible] then you have no choice.

At the end of the day though are you paying for hosting or content management? :).

Now that depends on the provider. Some providers do that and go extra edge to support New customers. With that being said the service is just complimentary and does not cover in Unamanaged or in some companies even in managed services.

I think you're asking for a webmaster as well as a service provider. If such providers were to do both it would increase the cost you pay for hosting. Bottom line: I think these are two separate services and should be treated as such.

Technically yes and large hosting providers will have dedicated teams to deal with webmaster duties, but for small hosts you need to be a service provider and webmaster as you will get clients that will need help with their websites and if you dont offer that service then they will go elsewhere.

simple solution is like what I do as i am a one man band. I am primarily a web host ( service provider), but i will also help clients out with websites as a webmaster if they ask, for this i charge £25 per hour, although for small task like installing a script etc. i will give them a fixed price. For long standing clients i will even do some small tasks FOC.

It is a case of the more you offer and can provide, then more chance of clients being satisfied and staying with you.

It is always good if the host provides some extra help to its custom as it works in direction of building a strong bond with them, but with this host must take care of his limit to provide extra support.

As mentioned all above, its always better as a host to provide better and better services so that customer remains loyal and come again to the same host for other projects and advice the same to others.

Many hosts are selling the same service, may b at less price as well. After sale service is the best quality like support, one host could give the customer to make them happy and brand loyal.

Personally I try my best to provide a support related to web hosting issue like importing site, fixing databse issue, If wordpress show blank page then I try to fix it for customer because of I think If we have a knowledge about it then don't waste your knowledge.

I know it will be a extra work but various customers feel so happy. You give a smile to your customer ;)

I think anyone using a hosting company and running a website should figure out these common administrative tasks, but we will always be glad to help out our clients figure it out.

As a reseller i had to come up with something i could do that the others could not do or would not. So i offered what i called Goodwill Support. Depending on the plan or service they purchased, they recieved an x amount of favors from me directly. These i would limit to a choice of a comprehensive site review, installing a plugin or addon that needed a little extra tech skill, tweak of their existing css codes, tweaking their htaccess files etc...
