In providing you top notch support was that what made them stand out from competitors? Did they have a toll free (800) number for support or was it their prompt replies to trouble tickets?
I've found that toll-free numbers just aren't used as much as you'd think they would be BUT they are a key factor in whether or not somebody decides to host with a company.
As far as the answer to this question - I wouldn't know too much about hosting companies with high quality support. Except that ThePlanet has been a fantastic datacenter to us.
Do you think there will be hosting companies popping up that can actually succeed offering discount hosting packages with no support or dedicated server packages with no support?
I've only been with 3 hosts, but hostivo is right, smaller hosts have the best and most personal support. Right now I'm with SonataWeb and love it. His support has been nothing short of great. I am yet to submit a support ticket but all questions via aim and irc have been answered within 15 minutes.
In general, all customers appreciate one-on-one personal attention. I suppose that, that paired with quick resolution of their problems is an awesome combination.
