Has anyone tried ServerMatrix's cogent servers? I've had terrible experience with cogent bandwidth in the past and was wondering if it's just as bad now at SM.

hmmm no I haven't tried yet...
I think it's only 99.5% uptime

guess there's a price for everything

The cogent stuff they are doing is perfect for backup servers, I have about 6 racks of kit with SM now, and use their unmetered stuff on VLAN with my other servers to run backups of everything. Good for non critical stuff, personally am liking it so far.

servermatrix is good. I havent tried their cogent program, but since its servermatrix, it must be good.
CServer Hosting,
by your definition: If a car was from ServerMatrix, then it must a good car. Right? I don't think so.

On another note, Cogent has admittedly had problems with their network (especially after AOL depeered them) as of late.

I had some bad luck with SM's regular network (severe packet loss), so I don't think their Cogent network could be too good. Quality bandwidth comes at a cost.

Cogent brings them a cheaper price for server
Cogent dont sell servers, so the server price is extremely unlikely to be affected.
The transit price on the other hand ...
I have heard that Cogent improving a lot recently, although they have had packet losses in the past.
They're having it still today at the connection with seabone stateside and BT in the uk

As longs as you remember that what you'r ebuyin is something on a cogent line, and you're prepared for the inevitable problems, traffic issues and downtime then go for it ! A clear case of choose ... price or reliability - you cant have both.

Cogent is perfect for backups or anyone who needs a ton of transfer but isn't very worried about stability. Although there network isn't "that bad" its still not to be relied on in my opinion.
