Scam web host providers Watchdog

After so many times bad experience with website hosting Scam Companies, I thing it is time somebody somewhere to open a public Host Scam Watchdog website so the webmasters and host clients to be able to report Hosting Scams Companies.

In my opinion the providers of web hosting scams should be considered as a criminal act and treated as thefts.

I’m encouraging anybody and everybody who know hosting scams providers to start reporting hosting scams. This will save many people frustration, time and money.

Personally I’m going to develop a Host Scam Watchdog for US, CA, AU and UK and I’m looking for web host service providers brave enough to host such a public sites at reasonable cost.

If out there are people who care and want to get involve in the battle against the Scam Invasion let me know.

Internet Masters with distributed networks and large data management skills, intelligence and knowledge are very desirable to lead the webmasters in the war and protect the Web from the Scam Invasion.

Here is the first basic Host Scam report.

Host Location: Canada
Host Name: Webserve.ca
Hosting Scam type: Automatic server uptime manipulation.
Offer uptime 99.9%, Real uptime 40% - 70%
If the 25% of the bandwidth you pay for is utilized the server is switched to automatic site off mode.
Update blackmail. (Email, CGI and PHP process interruptions and sabotages)
If you pay with credit cart or upfront there is no way to stop your money disappear.

to be continued …

Webserve.ca - Pretty good reputation…? Yah.
I think Naso has a good point about the server uptime manipulation.
I have my nonprofits site hosted on www.webserve.ca and what to say? – Lately it is a very doggy hosting business. Basic Statistics (Webalizer and analogs reports) are not working in the last few months and you never know what is going on.

Thanks to Naso scam alert.
Now I understand why Webserve Canada is not providing proper webalizer and other usage statistics any more.

The “Hosting Scam Watchdog” idea makes sense. It is always good to know the website host providers that use scams to get your money.

Could you elaborate on what host scams consist of exactly? Does this only apply to erroneously claimed uptime?

Hummm... I am not sure where you get this information from, but we have been hosting numbers of our sites with Webserve for the past few years and uptime been amazing so is the service.

Anyway, good luck with your Watchdog thing!

I am part of an organisation down in South Africa who join together as ISP's and we buy webspace for our clients with other webhosts. Although it is a bit of a dodgy process, we subsidise our clients webspace and get donations from the people who we 'watch-dog' for. Its a very good idea and brings up some interesting stats...although we have no actual web-site, our combined ISP power, allows us to sort of monopolise against SCAM hosters...

There are only 3 directives that we advise:
  1. Dont EVER buy from people offering hosting for ridiculously high or low prices and dont just go for the package that allows the most web-space...its not neccesarily the best!
  2. Always google the name of your host before going any further..." ***** reviews" and " Beware ****** " often bring up the most results...also, do searches through the old archives of places like this
  3. Dont go with hosts that use template sites...75% of the time, they are duds

Thats all I can say, but to all of you that have been ripped off, please send me a PM with the details as I want to compile a list of 'Hosts that Boast'...
Please support me in this initiative!

Hello,

I was with Webserve.ca sometime ago and their service was excellent and to be honest I haven't heard any problems with them. It would be good to have more information this.

This thread is old enough (and confusing enough) to warrant a closure. Besides, naso promised "to be continued" but failed to come back. Most likely he simply had a serious grudge against Webserve for some reason. :)
