RAM speed

Can anyone tell me what the difference will be, and more imortantly, how MUCH a difference I will ACTUALLY notice, between having 667mhz RAM or 800mhz?

It would also depend on what you are looking at doing. 800 is better than 667 but it also depends on what your using it for.

You also have to take a look at your CPU. If you use an AMD AM2 then take a look at your "multiplier" of the CPU. Some AM2 X2 CPUs run faster with 667 RAM than with 800. Bizare but true.

Well, I would say that difference is really noticeable between 800mhz and 667

As far as hosting goes, more ram would probably be your best bet, versus faster ram. However it all depends what you plan on doing with it, or if you can have both, why not go for that! Latency of the ram plays a roll here as well.

I'd be more concerned with disk IO than ram speed.

As long as you know which type of RAM you need, and if or not you have any additional memory slots available on your motherboard.

You definitely want to check the specs on your computer (motherboard) to make sure that it is capable of using higher speed RAM. A lot of times they recommend instead of flat out telling you not to use it because you won't see a difference in performance.

IO speed is definitely what you need to worry about. RAM speed does play a role but the faster the IO the better!
