It seems like DIYHosting is going into virtual private servers market on June 1 of this year. http://www.projectvps.com

I know Simon is around HostingDiscussion a lot, I hope he could share some insight into the new exciting business branch.

It looks like VPS is becoming more affordable, so more shared hosting customers will eventually be switching to private servers.

As a few will no doubt know; we internally discussed this @ DIYHosting last September. We've been planning it since then, and set up some stupidly high powered machines to base it on. Over the past six months I have been impressed with some of the presentations we've seen, regarding the solutions made possible by VPS.

Now, instead of just throwing up a typical VPS solution, we're just throwing it open for requests and suggestions.

You are indeed correct; VPS is becoming more affordable for an end user, so I can see this being a way forward for a lot of mid-large shared hosting users. It is the perfect complientary service to reseller services, in my opinion.

The thought process behind offering VPS was that the jump from a reseller account, to a dedicated server scares a lot of users, both price and control wise. It was really a case of putting something in the middle; an extra tier if you will.

It's always exciting when launching a new service or solution, but this one will really be my baby on Tuesday (we have another service that we release tomorrow, so my time is free after that).
