Powweb

PowWeb sells 1 GB of bandwidth at a rate of $0.03. That price that you pay is supposed to cover not only traffic bill, but hardware, customer and technical support, among other 100 things. PowWeb, you can say, is overselling their services. However, the impression is that the majority of their clients are satisfied with service. Keep in mind, however, that those clients do not even come close at consuming those 300 GB, due to number of limitations they establish for each account. Due to this, PowWeb is able to attract a lot of thousands of consumers through great offering, but the reality of the matter is - if all those users started to consume all 300GB every month, PowWeb business model would quickly become unsustainable.

Please note that I have never had any direct experience with a company and only express my personal opinion.

Best,

I must agree with Artashes; bandwidth costs, although quite low in the USA, are not even *that* low, and even if you've got 'economies of scale' on your side. Add to that even basic hardware/server costs, and you're well over $0.03/GB before you even consider things like support.

I've never heard anything that I can recall regarding PowWeb; so, like Artashes' view, it's just opinion... But it certainly doesn't seem sustainable should people start using anything near the 300GB possible with those plans.

Reliable is such an often used word yet it often means different things to different people. Some will say 99% monthly uptime is OK, while others will be upset that their site was down for 8 minutes this month, during the busiest time of the day (in terms of sales generated by their site).

"Reliable" certainly means different things when you're talking about different purposes. So, what type of site do you plan to have with the host?

Hit the nail on the head there, I share the same opinion you just ask yourself: "Is this offer too good to be true" :agree:
Just my opinion.

I can only say they are popular but 5 GB space and 300gb bandwithd per month for less than $8/mo is not a sign of reliablity.

Save your time & money. Don't choose them.

Find a host you think looks good, make sure they offer monthly biliing [don't jump into any yearly fees]. Try sending them an email, see how fast they respond.

Good luck!

It is strange to hear something like this coming from another web hosting provider.
Maybe he has experience with them?

...hides and keeps away from Art's stick.

Not personally.

A customer of mine recently switched hosting providers to Dean Solutions. He told me how they kicked him off after he used a couple of GB [nothing close to his limit].

Again, I don't want to give any bad reviews - Just what I was told.

Selling with numbers. If a company is able to manage the quality of service they will grow very rapidly. As for myself slow and steady. Find the host you feel most secure with. Contact sales or support. Did they reply fast with a quality response? Do your research and you will do fine.

Do note that they limit your usage per day to 5GB which definately does control your bandwidth usage and make it harder to burst once in a while. They guaranteed 100% uptime but, that only applies to the network therefore, if they have all their boxes down but the network up, they don't need to refund anything. Personally, if I had to decide between them and all the other "great" web hosts out there, I wouldn't choose them. But, that's just me, you may do as you wish.

I aggree with everyone on there rules. It would make it hard to have a website with them if you plan on doing alot fo stuff on your website. To me it is kind of misleading. Saying you get that much Space and Bandwidth and you can really use it.
