*PHEW* Relieved - Server move completed to a new data center

As I moved to another VPS and new data center, I took some time to make sure this would turn out good. And so far I am highly satisfied with the results, not only because of my satisfaction but it also means a better solution for my clients.

Now, if I never have to change upstream providers again in my life, that would be even better than the icing on the cake!

To give you an idea -
Old Server:

Disc space: 30GB (logs use more space than the hosted accounts. Can't get enough hosted accounts on to pay for the server because the space is all filled)
Bandwidth: 300GB
RAM: 512MB
Memory Burst: 512MB (WoW - okay sarcasm intended)
Disk Usage: 105% 31.5 GB of 30 GB Used / -1574856 KB Free (Yep, I owe them space even though technically the server when I run the command is set to 40GB - Okay, they missed something somewhere in giving me more space than they realize I have - you do the math.)
IP's: Normally 1 on this account, but I complained in the beginning and they gave me two.
Support: Haven't used them much at all, but they have been slightly resistant at times and reluctantly answered questions because they figured with a VPS they should not have to answer questions pertaining to the inner operation of the VPS. To which I kind of agree, but it amounted to 2 or 3 questions only over about 6 years, I know this had to be tough on them, but it taxed their patience level.

Total cost with cPanel which they bill separately: $46.45

- NEW SERVER -

Disc Space: 50GB (Slightly bigger right? Watch the cost at the end and compare that to the old server after you factor everything in. By the way, I'm not done yet.)
Bandwidth: 1000GB (have you noticed a slight improvement? Okay, sorry, BIG improvement)
RAM: 4GB (Dagoonit anyhow if this doesn't bet all in itself) (Sorry, I'm a country boy)
Memory Burst: Not listed. (Do you think they got it covered anyway? Shucks!)
Disk usage: 15% 7.42 GB (Why did it take 31.5 on the past server?) of 50 GB Used / 42.58 GB Free (And this is after ALL domains are transfered. Why did it take over 30GB on the previous server? I deleted tons of log files too. And to note, there is a significant increase of space just within the last couple of months, not over the life of the server or I would have noticed. Something fishy was going on and if I listed it all here, I'd be viewed as a negative critic!) Here's the funny thang, only 7 domains were hosted on that last server - you do the math)
Support: Answered every question in a fair amount of time very professionally and without complaint so that I could get everything up and running in a short time and also reason with these people who actually have brains and are serving me well already just within the first few days of doing business with them.
IP's: 8 (Now my own domains are IP based finally!)

Total cost with cPanel which they bill separately: $49.00 (Only $2.55 more a month - you do the math)

------------------------------------------------------------------
I took the time to write this, not only to express my happiness after having the frustration of dealing with an upstream provider who slacked in their duties and to present to you an upstream provider who actually cares for the needs of their clients even though the former one claimed to do so but did not fulfill their claims.

This new provider I have represents the way we should all do business. I won't bash my past provider and I won't glorify anyone either. What I want to relay is integrity. Unless your company has real integrity, your company does not have any worthwhile value.

I won't reveal my previous provider because I don't want to bash them. I would love to reveal my present provider but have been hesitant to do so because I thought, what IF I decide to offer VPS also? It would serve as a professional conflict to send you to a provider who could take my business away. But they are a business model to me, and if you recognize real integrity in business, they will be your business model also. but more importantly, what if we all take hold on that business model and improve it? Would not that make us all a little bit better? So wisdom tells me that it's not about revealing which companies are doing what, but it's about what they are doing that makes them excellent. And if we all can take hold on that, think of what it can do for our own companies!

What an excellent share and comparison of what you had versus what you get now. It is a drastic improvement and I am sure you are feeling relieved as well as happy!

You've taken us through your moving experience and followed through with it, thank you for that. Your stand not to name providers is well respected as well, since the lessons learned are still very valuable.

The reality of the situation is that some companies don't know how to manage value proposition. We clearly have two completely different machines for pretty much the same price. The old provider could have done the technical upgrades (increase space or bandwidth or RAM), but they chose to sit on old tech offer while competition betters itself daily. We aren't even talking about support here. They lost purely based on hardware alone.

Thank you for sharing once again. I formatted your post slightly (made the words in bold type and underlined a couple other word) so that it is easier to read and see information. I did not delete or edited content in any way. I hope you don't mind. :)

Thank you sir for your acknowledgement and support, that is also well respected and I am humbled by your comments.

Sounds like you had a lot of old logs and temp data on your old VPS. You should have opened a ticket and had them clean up old logs or set log rotation to something a little quicker. In the future you can use the following command to easily identify what directories are using the most space:

du -sh * | sort -h

Thanks, yes I have used the du command to get rid of excessive log files. Near the end the space was being consumed very quickly, and being that I was not happy with the server it was easier to get a new "apartment."

And be sure to install CSF and review its email alerts as it can be very helpful in keeping your server clean and running well. You can disable the non important emails though from the configuration settings, such as known root logins, resource limitations, etc.
