What is Internxt?
Internxt is a zero-knowledge cloud storage service based on best-in-class privacy and security.
According to Fran Villalba Segarra, the Founder and CEO of Internxt, "Internxt’s mission is to help shape a new digital world that respects privacy rights and bolsters honest and ethical conduct online. We often hear news about malware, data breach, and cyberattacks that have occurred to big tech companies these past few months, and seeing more people fall prey to these attacks are very alarming. We want to help protect everyone's data privacy and educate our users on their rights.
At Internxt, we strive to deliver a product that can help people feel at ease using storage that can protect their photos, essential data, and files. So now that you know the inspiration behind Internxt let's tackle the most controversial question people often ask when they see Internxt.
Is Internxt legit?
This is probably one of the main things we often get asked about!
So we'd like to share something about how Internxt works and why we claim to be reliable cloud storage!
A to X: Everything about how Internxt works
Account creation
Each account the user creates, they are issued a client. In your client, we store your mnemonic, which acts as your encryption key. Whenever you register an account with the Internxt platform, we generate a passphrase and place it in your client, and this is called a mnemonic. Your plain text password is used as a key to decrypt your mnemonic, which will later be used to produce unique encryption/decryption keys for your files.
Once you create an account and access the platform, the service operates like any other familiar private cloud storage. You can create folders, share docs, and upload and download files.
Encrypting and decrypting your files
We use end-to-end encryption, and our storage is also known as AES256. When you upload a file to our private cloud storage, Internxt automatically encrypts the file before it leaves your device. After your file is encrypted, we then break it into shards and distribute the pieces of information throughout the Internxt network. Only the user with the encryption key can decrypt and piece back together encrypted files.
File sharing
File sharing works differently as those with the link containing the code can correctly regenerate the decryption key and download the content without corrupting it.

Peer-to-peer networks
Encrypted files are sent across a vast peer-to-peer network, meaning your files are scattered worldwide on various user devices or servers. Your encrypted files can’t be opened by the host device (since they don’t have the encryption key).
Blockchain
Blockchain technology allows for integrity, transparency, and democracy within Internxt systems. Blockchain advocates ensure that the entire process is carried out correctly. If something goes wrong or information is altered or tampered with, it will be evident in the blockchain and corrected.
Open-source
Internxt is open-source, as well as most blockchain companies, which means anybody (who understands the coding language) can look under the hood and personally inspect the system we’ve built in our secure storage. All our code is published here on Github; feel free to take a look!
