In general, prices seem to be increasing

I have noticed a trend lately that I am very in favor of.
The prices new companies are charging seem to be going up, compared to in the last year or so with people offering 50gb transfer for $2, people seem to be putting more value on their services.

I think this can onyl help the industry IF they are taking the business sersiously and have done some research, for example knowing that you can't keep a hosting business going on a price model of that much bandwidth for such a low cost.

It will mean less people will get burnt...hopefully.

I think they are finally coming to a realisation that more and more people are becoming savvy as to what is possible at a certain cost and what is not.

I am seeing less and less "unlimited" hosts anyway, which has to be a good thing.

There will always be some people offering the world for next to nothing, that isn't something you can change, but I think the industry as a whole has been getting better lately :)

It makes me happy :D

I agree - we will wait and see. If the quality goes up then I am all for it, if not - then screw it. I have been charging a great price for my plans - and customers appericate that :)

Prices are not going further down. Offered features and resources (disk space/traffic allowance) are going up in return (even if almost no customer will ever use all of it). I think it is a very good trend.

Good trend for the customers, but not for the hosting providers. Granted most users would not even come close to their max usage in terms of space, bw, etc. but some hosts do not like to oversell.

Now, there are many hosts that would not consider this under their overselling definition, but I would.

my $.02.

i agree prices are going up and this can only help, soon ill be opening my own host and all money i recive will go into improve the company eg suppot, uptime etc

Hey Christoph
I don't think all companies have their resources going up along with prices, especially those that don't oversell, they also tend to keep the feature limits down isntead of a lot of companies that offer unlimited features.

I think this is good for the hosts, the prices are going up, yet the hosts don't have to offer anything extra really, the extra features will use the space and bandwidth in the account anyway.

I don't mean hosts are offering more space and bandwidth then making the prices higher, the levels are the same, but the hosts are charging more.
More people seem to have a business plan these days and don't start out with a reseller account and about 5 minutes to spare everyday.

I think this is good for hosts and customers :)

This is a good sign if the trend can continue. I was doing some searches on WHT and had to laugh at some of the deals that caused the downfall of Angelnetworkz. While nice in theory, the BOGO offers at the prices offered were nuts.

Another thing that I think some providers tend to forget is that many of the services they're looking at from other providers are on sites that cater to technical individuals. The more savvy people are going to be looking for cheaper alternatives because they have the knowledge to walk if need be. If my parent's website goes down repeatedly they'll never even notice. They're probably the perfect customer now that I think about it. Pay for hosting, never use any resources, and never submit tickets. ;)

Edit...wow, didn't notice how old this thread was. :D
