ID Protection..

If you are referring to domain privacy protection you'll at least need to cover the charge to your business (if any) and any transactional fees incurred. Some providers use it as an additional revenue stream for their business and others still provide privacy protection for free. I don't think there is a 'best' price.

I dont think there is a standard price. For example we offer it free but I also know that some companies charge for it so there is no standard price rather depends on your business model

Now a days many of the qualified identity theft protection service providers providing free demo as a trial for at least a week you can try & go ahead with the best as per your convenience & satisfaction. ID protection is much important against fraud things.

As you provide web hosting service, I think you can always learn from other hosts and offer a reasonable price to people..

Many providers provide the service for free while others sale it for a few dollars. For us we thought it was something we could do for our clients for free but as long as you stay reasonable in price there is no problem charging for it.

Privacy protection is one of the main feature many domain name providers provide with there services. It is also offered Free of charge.

It is also offered Free of charge.

A lot of domain registrars now make a charge for this and it is upto the host if he passes this charge to his clients.

Resellerclub now charge GBP 1.79 (approx. USD 2.58) for Privacy Protection, so i have a choice either swallow up these costs or make a charge to clients.

As domains are only a secondary income as it is hard for a small host to compete with the big players like Go Daddy, 123-reg so only make at most £1 on domains then this cost cannot be swallowed and has to be passed onto clients

There are numerous registers who offer it free.

Registrars that are ICANN accredited have to now charge for this service, this is why resellerclub started charging as it was always a free service apart from namecheap.

yes as you say it is then upto the host if they swallow these charges or make it a chargeable service.

Don't forget that if you purchase a domain for commercial purposes then you are not allowed to hide your privacy in a whois search

True the context under which its offered free is where the hosts decide not to pass on the charge and several are taking it up largely because its demand isnt that big I guess.

That is true, but as i only make on average £1 on domains and some just 50p profit to offer this paid service free would make a lose, which is not a good business practice

A good practice is to offer it free when tied to a particular plan normally one that can shoulder the cost. Its more like offering a discount on certain plans.

But with WHMCS you cant do that as its tied to the domains and it is either free always or paid always.

very few people would get domains from hosts anyway as they will use Godaddy, namecheap, 123-reg etc.

i even looks at these when i am after a domain rather than go through my own resellerclub account as they offer better deals and discounts for domains, but to compete pricewise with these then you have to keep your domains as low as you possibly can.

this is even more important now as from April Nominet are removing multi year discounts for all .uk domains, so you will pay the same annual price if you take out .uk domains for 2+years as you would be taking it out for 1 year.

There are different prices for ID protection. It all depends on the domain providers and the price can differ from $1 to $1+

What I usually is offer ID protection free for the first year, and then charge a few dollars for the recurring years..
