I am curious to see what other people include in a basic package.

How much do YOU offer on your basic hosting package(s)?

And how did you decide what to include?

the best place to start is hosting forums and then look at a few hosts to see what they charge and what they offer, then look at your costs and see if you can offer the same or even more for a basic price with is usually between £1 to £3 ($1.24 to $3.73) a month.

Is this how you went about doing this yourself?

I would imagine people are not keen on sharing everything as we are competitors and all. I am just curious how people process their own prices.

The trick in my opinion is go low enough to attract people in but not stupid low to attract many spammers/abusers/etc.

Followed by loading it up with plenty of USEFUL "free" stuffs. But as with anything moderation is key, don't be giving everyone the "sun and moon" with their order on the low end hosting plan...
 
Start with the cheapest price that you can offer with the a specific hardware configuration. Maybe some good promo codes with free bandwidth and cheap upgrades will attract more customers.

Yes, others are not going to share such information to you, but when you look on forums other hosts advertise their plans with URL links, nothing stopping you going to these URLs and seeing what others are offering and charging.

Once you have plans set up and a billing/management system in place, then do a few test purchases to make sure everything is working as it should, then you can advertise on forums and maybe even a few ebay listings ( some of my best clients come from ebay )
 
It is a wrong perception, however, that cheap web hosts entail poor quality of services because there are really, indeed, reputable web host providers that are offering affordable or cheap web hosting packages.

It would certainly be helpful to the member and everyone else interested how you came up with the packages. What techniques and economics did you use to put together the plans, how did the calculations took place, what accounting principles did you use, etc.
 
@Artashes i would have if i could but honestly i don't know because i am not the person who makes the plans however if i should answer this question OP should be a little more specific :
Are we talking about a linux or a windows server ?
Are we talking about available app / available ressources / available technologies ?
Target is pro customers or lambda customers ?

I would start at what it costs you as a provider as you know you have to charge more than that. Doing research to keep things in line with the competitors is great but to charge as low as £1 is just setting you up for disaster down the road. £1 is not a sustainable price when you really want to invest into your company (marketing, support staff etc).

I'd aim for prices at minimum around $5 - $10 upwards. Much more sustainable and will enable you to grow your staff, licenses etc without having to count the pennies.

Depends on your business and the server costs.

Several years ago i ran a server with plans at £1 a month for registered charities and community groups (evidence was needed to prove their status) and made a great profit from it and that was offering the same support i offer my current clients.

I sold this to a specialist host that deals with charities only and a couple months later i heard from one of the charities i hosted that within days of being taken over the new host stopped providing support and increased the costs to £10 a month. now this charity is back being hosted by me and paying £6 a month which they are happy to do as they know i provide quality support and assistance.
 
I know many companies provide extras which they charge for, like £1 for their site builder £2 for backups etc, but I provide all of these in every package as they are installed on the server and us the same whether you are paying for it or not.

We don't charge for customers to be able to perform their own restores from R1Soft, for example, as we are greatful not to have to perform the restores. Why hold a feature to ransom?

So all accounts get Softaculous, R1Soft, Site Pro & Patchman, as we see every customer using them as a benefit and a way to make them more sticky.

I usually start low. Provide good enough features like maybe free SSLS etc... enough to bring people in and make them want to purchase your services... But for standard webhosting starting as low as around $2-5 depending on what your offering obviously as long as it covers your cost to. But like others have said looking in the hosting offers will help a little depending on how well built the company is. Hope this helps a little bit.
 
Our basic plan is £1.95 a month, but this is only enough for a 1 or 2 page site with little traffic, but they still get a free SSL cert as standard
 
We offer upto 10 GB Space in Shared Hosting but in Basic Package we offer 3,000 MB now with CloudFlare Railgun & a AlphaSSL WildCard for free.
 
As an end user, I would love to buy basic hosting from $1-$4/mo, if it's higher than that price, I will go with VPS, it's also around $5/mo

IMO
