Hosting companies that offer MS Outlook Exchange 2003 email services:

Hi Everyone,

I've been digging through site after site looking for a web hosting company that offers all of the following at a reasonable price ($20 or less/month)
***1) Microsoft Outlook 2003 Exchange email services
2) Web hosting with space of at least 250mb
3) No limit or high cap on bandwidth useage
4) A great content management system
5) Bulletin boards, forum capability

It seems the majority of companies offer everything you would want except
for the Microsoft Outlook 2003 Exchange email services. I do not want to host
my site at a company that uses squirrel mail or another internet based
generic email client. Ideally there is one hosting company that offers everything I need. The only one I've found so far (which the hosting part is kind of cheesy) that offers both is Elightened Technology group in Texas.

Does anyone have any additional recommendations? Am I dreaming to
find all of these at an affordable price? :)

Thanks!!

James

James,
No offesnse, but you're expecting a lot for $20/month. Ok - I can see the 250MB easily being met by pretty much every host out there at the $20/month rate. As for the Exchange services, I couldn't tell you about that. I do know that Exchange is a flippin' resource hog and I personally won't ever go back to it. Having said that - onto the unlimited bandwidth useage.

Unlimited bandwidth. You are basically going up to the dealership, asking for a car that you can fill the gas tank for $20, and never expect it to run out for that month, no matter how much driving you do. It is not possible.

Another analogy. Take Sears (I think pretty much everyone knows what a Sears is) or Walmart - walk into the store. Ask them for a fridge that can hold unlimited amounts of food. There isn't such a thing. It is not possible.

No, don't ask for unlimited transfer/bandwidth - I don't care if you think you'll only use half a gig of transfer, ask for half a gig. You are asking for trouble with a host that offers unlimited bandwidth. Bandwidth/transfer is a commodity, there are physical limitations that prevent it from even being close to unlimited.

For more tips visit http://www.webhostingtips.info - or ask around here.

I'm not trying to be mean, I don't want to crash your dreams, but I am trying to help you understand.

-Now, about the Exchange vs. Squirrel Mail - I think you're confused. Squirrel Mail is a web mail feature, like that of Yahoo, Hotmail, or Gmail. Most hosts will provide you with POP3/SMTP features so that you can use your favorite E-mail client (Outlook Express, or Outlook.) with your hosting. Can you clarify about your Exchange requirement?

John (Exon) is absolutely correct. You are asking for a Corvette, but your paying for a Honda (don't get me wrong...Honda's are great car's too).

Correct me if I'm wrong, but Exchange requires Windows hosting, which is generally more expensive than linux hosting. Then you slap on unlimited bandwidth and a content management system and foums. Scratch the unlimited and make it say, 20GB and your still asking for more than $20.

All you need to do is rethink the pricing and the bandwidth. Try to come up with a number that will really suit you. Remember, you're paying for quality, especially if you need to run a mission-critical mail server.

Am I dreaming to find all of these at an affordable price?
Unfortunately, yes. I'm sure that you can get it at an affordable price, but $20 is too affordable.

First off do you really need exchange hosting? Are you going to use the shared calender or other features? If it's just for email than any host will work since Outlook supports POP and IMAP email along with exchange. If your heart is set on exchange then look at 1&1, http://trimurl.com/VV.

thanks

Hi Everyone,

I appreciate all your feedback, it was very helpful. I do need outlook
exchange email for the calendars, management of MS office (contracts, spreadsheets, etc.) files and the mass mailing capability. Pop email (squirrel mail or any of the others) is useless if you are on the road and need to be able to do more powerful tasks than send a text email.

I am asking for a lot for the price, consider that most everything I'm asking for (with the exception of the unlimited bandwidth) can be found through a number of hosts for under $10/month. Also, consider that Outlook exchange mail hosts like Mail Street and 1 and 1 offer that capability for under $10/month and it's not too far off. The question is, are there any other companies besides one and one that offer both or at least most of both? I've read a bunch of complaints on a number of forums about 1 and 1
and Mail Street only offers Outlook Exchange hosting.

Any thoughts?

At the price point you're looking for I imagine all will have complaints. All the "good" hosted exchange places I know of charge $10-$50/month per mailbox and they do not offer web-hosting. They specialize in exchange hosting and focus on their speciality. I know of one that does both that seems to get decent reviews but it is out of your price range.

Hosted Website with 250MB storage -- $25 per month
Hosted Exchange 5 mailboxes $50 per month, $10 per month for additional

Another vote for InterMedia in my book - they simply rock (though I haven't used them that recently - a few months ago I did though). They have a semi-custom control panel which, I think, is really self-explanatory and intuitive.
