Google checkout now with FREE transactions

Now if someone can explain to me why Google Checkout is a good thing for hosting service companies in particular, I'd appreciate that. :)

I really think that Checkout program is a bit frustrating and complicated enough. Google so far has not succeeded on any other market other than search.

I think that Google Checkout "could be" a good thing. However, I don't see it going anywhere for quite some time.

Not only do I think the process of setting it up per their guidelines, is frustrating enough, but I think their guidelines are just a bunch of hoops to jump through, all for the sake of 1. Offering a payment option (that I must say is far behind PayPal from the start). 2. Google wanting branding on your pages, even the ones that Google Checkout is not offered.

Generally speaking, in regards to the above, they basically want you to put their logo all over your site. If you offer the option on a product/service, you have to display their button. If you don't offer their option for a particular product or service...you have to display their "Google Checkout Not available" button on that page. To add to the frustration, you cannot have the "Not Available" button on more than 5% of your pages....this means that you HAVE TO offer Google Checkout on at least 95% of your pages.

We'll be sticking with PayPal and 2CO thank you very much :P

Wow, Mark, I wasn't even aware of all those limitations...
That only make their positioning worse in my mind.

Best,

Too many things going on at once... I am not in the right state of mind right now to delve into details.

You know, I like google and the free things they do for a long as they do them, and looked forward to checking out their program, but was very disapointed at what they had set up.

:disagree:

I plan to set up Google checkout later this week. Since it is free untill end of 2007, it is good time to try it out.

What's funny is that I have not seen a single merchant using Google Checkout. I wonder if Google is going to try and create an Ebayish site soon as well...

I read of a few hosts using it. It's hard to get quick widespread adoption when you have old, well established competitors.

I just hope this prompts a price war amongst all such processors and merchants benefit from this. Finally, someone out there to give a fight to PayPal.
