Getting "bitten" by hosting companies.

I am starting to see the amount of companies out there who exist to con you.
I have been screwed by both ukhost4u.com and earhost.com this year now, and to be honest sometimes it makes me just want to quit altogether......I am not going to though.

I can recommend two decent companies out there for anyone who wants to resell www.purple-paw.com and www.thenexus.co.uk the latter is pretty pricey but reliable.

Has anyone else been "bitten by a host" this year?
 
I second EARHost, a total scam. Well, the fact that Tim's there is what totally makes me mad. :twisted: He has no ethics and is one of the scumbags that give us "teen" hosts or teen-operated businesses at that a bad rep.

Quite on the contrary I'd recommend http://www.lenzmultimedia.net . Although I'm not really into the "pre-made" hosts I feel I can make an exception here. If anyone can recommend a good bulk host as well I'd more than appreciate it. :)
 
Thats the problem with reselling for companies outside of the UK - its a legal grey area to "get back at them" if they take your money and run. Touch wood I have not had such problems - and hopefully never will as Apollo, Hera and Zeus (my servers) go public very soon.

My advice is to find out where tim lurks about on the internet (forums he spends alot of time on.etc) and kick up a fuss in them. Send him many an e-mail to the point he will be so sick of them he will refund you just to get rid of you.
 
I usually "assume" that everyone is out to rip me off from the outset and i rather like the saying "In business there is no such thing as trust". Doesn't help u at the moment Jo sorry. I was burnt by a host rather badly - though not really in the same sense. I owned part of the company and had it stolen from me - the assets alone were worth >£700k so as you can imagine i was pretty pissed. But what goes around comes around and the cowboys will almost always come a cropper in the end - people can't go around ripping people off and get away with it forever.
 
I wasn't burnt per se (not yet anyway), I just don't like the way he does business, shouldn't be in business at that (Tim). I'm expecting my refund Tuesday.
 
Yeah they have said tuesday 2 me 2 and then it will be 3 to 4 days before i get it in my bank account - paypals charges so im not particularly happy:(
 
A long time ago we had a bad experience with ServerHost, but apart from that, I can't say I have....
 
Well Its Tuesday, and i havent recieved my refund from earhost. ( i 2 was one of there clients) Ahh well, lesson learnt...

Yep no refund here either.
Mark i agree with the trust no-one in business comment. The guy who owns thenexus has been telling me for ages "you get what you pay for" (probably cos he charges a lot lol and wants my custom) but no I have finally learnt my lesson.
No more cheap hosts....
 
not entirely true in all cases...

Im a budget host compared to alot of others - and we offer alot of bonus's ie fast support, 99.9% uptime, fast servers .etc .etc :)
 
Amen, sista! :wink: Talking to Tim now -- supposedly, IMd him yet no reply -- if he tries to delay it and hassle me, expect all hell to break loose...

I've had nothing but bad luck with Spiderhosts. I wouldn't suggest them to my worst enemy.

...well, maybe I would. If I was feeling particularly vicious.
 
Suggestion: Before you pick a host do a search. Check for ratings,stats,ip to ping,forums, reviews. To make the best decisions use this strategy.
