Does it help to share PDFs of your blog articles on social media portals and if so, what portals would you recommend for the web hosting industry in general?

This is a question that always find myself asking too. I know Google can index PDFs and Word Docs, and I believe Bing is also doing that, but as far as rankings, I haven't seen much come out of it (unless it's a really technical paper etc).

As far as posting on portals or social media sites, that's something I'd be curious if others have done this and what the outcomes have been.
