DNS assistance (WHMCS)

Hello,

we are quiet new to the forum and we require a bit of assistance from those hosting experts out there.

Recently, we have had some clients trying to resolve their domains to their IP addresses of their virtual machines. For some reason, each time we try to edit the DNS we are getting the following message:

An error occurred: [2030288] Cannot complete this command as this domain is not using proper DNS servers

We are currently using NameCheap as our domain reseller, and using name.com for our main domain which has our name servers on as well.

Our domain is HostingAddicts.com, and our name servers are:
ns1.hostingaddicts.com
ns2.hostingaddicts.com

- We would appreciate if anyone has some guidance in resolving this. Our support team has attempted to resolve this, but it appears they are unfamiliar on whats happening.

Thank you, and we do appreciate all your help on this.

Hello,

yes everything looks to be configured fine from our end.

- We are getting that message when signing in as the client and selecting the option DNS Management. That errors appears at the top.

Thanks

I have spoke to them and they informed me they are unable to assist due to our actual name server domain not being purchased through them.

- We had contacted name.com and they informed me everything was setup correctly.

You might want to look at what format the old host used for the DNS serial number, whether you are using the standard reverse date + number i.e. 2011070501 or epoc time.
If you use the wrong format unless your number is higher than the last, naughty caching DNS servers will not may not accept your answers to their queries.

Then you spoke to the wrong registrar ;)

See, I'm just a bit confused.

- I've contacted both NameCheap.com & Name.com. NameCheap is who we use as our domain register for our clients, and we personally use Name.com for our domains. Namecheap informed me I'd have to contact name.com as the name servers are hosted with them, I'm just a bit confused..

Anyways, thanks for the help. We are still troubleshooting.

Stop. Have a coffee. Step back and plan :)

Start with the domain you are using as the nameservesr on client domains

is it registered, and who with
are the nameservers used on the domain correct
is the zone for that domain on those namesrevers correct, update it so it has a new serail
does that zone have teh ns1 & ns2 A records - are they correct
are the ns1/ns2 nameservers registered and correct

- be methodical ...
