Discontinuation of free minFraud query promotion

First they discontinued their Telephone verification service, now for those that were fortunate to have a free Maxmind minFraud from the promotion WHMCS ran a while back, then we are going to have to take out a subscription with them as just got this email

Dear MaxMind customer,

You currently participate in a MaxMind promotion which grants you free Basic minFraud queries each month. Effective October 1, 2014, this promotion will be discontinued.

To continue using minFraud, you should purchase a minFraud subscription. Purchasing a subscription will give you access to many more data points not available with Basic queries.

For any inquiries, suggestions, and concerns, please contact support@maxmind.com. Thank you for your continuing patronage.

Sincerely,
MaxMind

Terry,

We will not be discontinuing your free minFraud queries effective October 1st. You received the email in error and I sincerely apologize for the mistake. WHMCS users are not going to be affected by that particular discontinuation. However, we will be retiring free minFraud for WHMCS users at some point and you will receive an email with specific details before that happens. We are not under any obligation to offer free queries indefinitely.

If I can help you with anything else, please let me know.

Regards,
Katy Levine

In addition. The discontinuation of the free plan "at some point" doesn't have a date. Could be end of the year, could be end of 2016..

Good to know; If you start paying for a plan, you can stock up on queries. Let's say you're only querying them 50x per month, 950 queries will be carried over to the next month and so forth. You can then cancel your subscription until you're almost out of queries and then re-start your plan to continue stocking up.

Because? Do you have a foundation for that statement?
Every communication I've had with them has been great.

same here. my gripe is the way they have gone about their recent changes and they way they sent emails not until you inform them that the whmcs ones were not part of any promotion they say they sent the email in error. wonder if i have never pointed out this would they go ahead and stops even WHMCS customers

The subscription cost isn't bad, really. $9.95 per month for a basic number of thousands of minfraud queries - worth it if you ask me.

They provide a really good service to us here at Steadfast and we certainly use what we purchase from them. So with that said, I think $10/mo is a good value for the service they provide to hosting companies.

Well lets hope once they've settled down with the changes they can learn from this to prevent such mistakes in future.

I can only imagine the number of free accounts they have so hopefully they can push forward past this.

Most of small hosting company does not even use more then 200 query.

We're no longer dependent on Maxmind, there is many other alternative.

Damn, we upgraded and according to the reply you've had we also received the email by mistake. The telephone verification service was a joke anyway, we were charged for numerous calls to clients who had entered the correct code and were still flagged as fraudulent.

I think it works as it is designed to honestly but you could have always made the suggestion (not that it matters now).

As for your package, why not ask them to revert you back as they made the mistake when sending the email ;).
