It is a unique IP address assigned to a particular hosting account/domain. If you plan to a run an e-commerce website and need SSL then you will need to get a dedicated IP. Some scripts and applications also need dedicated IP.

An IP address assigned to your server/website only. It can be used for your server/website only and can't be shared with anyone else for shared hosting.

For most hosting such as VPS, dedicated servers and colocation you will get a dedicated IP address. This means that the IP they assign you will stay the same unless they don't own those IP's and lease or rent IP's it's possible those could then change at some point in time.

Shared hosting is something you might see an option for a dedicated IP while you could also be given a shared IP address that others also use for pointing their websites at.

Not these days most server are SNI, so no need for a dedicated IP to get an SSL certificate anymore.

Dedicated IP address is the unique IP that is provided to your server. It is not shared with any other customer or web host and solely owned by your own server.

@mihirthakur With all due respect the question "What is dedicated IP address in web hosting and do I need one?" asked by a member of HD forum with more than 50 posts menus you have no idea what are you doing here? I would suggest you to go and spend some time reading Wikipedia - https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/IP_address

And to think he "represented" a web hosting company, proudly displaying them in his signature. Those kind of spam tactics on behalf of companies, when then hire "content/SEO specialists" are disgraceful and not going to fly here on our forum.
