Can I trust them? [www.onedollarhost.net]

Joro, the short answer - NO, you can't trust someone who is selling you unlimited stuff (think as they are giving you unlimited money) for $1 per month. First of all, the transaction would eat 50% of that $1, so there is no way, absolutely no way they'll be able to provide you with quality services.

Best,

It's possible for them to sell at that price and exsist, I doubt it's a scam. I can almost guarantee you there overselling, just wait until they get 5 more customers and all their customers will be affected. Basically i'm sure they're running like a 120 gig drive in there and expect users not to use that much space but the problem is sooner or later they are going to get a client who uses a lot of space. A lot of so-call "Unlimited" hosts have a policy normally that if you are using excessive ammount of space that is affecting normal server performance they have the right to terminate you. AS for bandwidth if their offering unlimited I'd hate to see their bill unless their on cogent and not charging for going past limit heh. Don't trust them though.

Joro, where do you get those companies from?? Jeez..

ShadowHosting. Well, 50 GB bandwidth for $5 bucks per month is possible, but that's about as far as they would go. They need to cover tech support staff and customer service people, pay for bills and offer you 50 GB transfer and all other services within 5 dollar budget.

1t3 - again, unmetered bandwidth, not true. I think members here explained it well already that unlimited bandwidth is just wrong to go with. Looks like you are looking for some pig package (in the neighborhood of 50 GB) and you can trust my judgement when I say if you sign up for an unlimited host - there is no way he would allow you to use even more than 10-15 GB per month - he will cut you off.

If you want decent hosting, there are plenty of companies who can give you good service, why do you search out the cheapest ones? You usually get what you pay for.

Good luck,

I do not have personal experience with any of the listed by you companies, thus I cannot recommend you any of them.

Best,

If your really that pressed for cash you shouldn't have a site. It never hurts to ask though as companies such as myself and many others here sometimes offer discounts given you have a good argument as to why someone should get a lower rate. i.e.(student, advertising agreement)

They could offer that price if they don't have any employees (ie: they're a reseller of Hostopia, etc.)

At one dollar per month you'll get what you pay for.

Stay away from unlimited bandwidth/space hosts. There is a physical limitation of both you can have on one server and you will notice in their tos/aup there are some strict restrictions. Look for established hosts that offer Budget plans if you want something small to start with. We sign up tons of people on our budget plan that just need it to get started then they upgrade to a bigger plan in 3-6 months.

I saw a host that did $1/month accounts. You had to pay yearly, that would help with the transaction fees. They could offer unlimited BW because they gave you something like 15Mb disk space.

You would need a ton of hits to ever use any serious bandwidth and that would only be if you used all your disk space on 1 big file and it was being downloaded 24/7 by a bunch of people.

Other than that, unlimited bandwidth is something that you want to stay away from.

Let me tell you a few words about "unlimited hosting".
Yes, there is no such thing, they just try to get many people that only want a few "thats me" pages that just dont want to worry about costs. These people do not cause any traffic really and they do not mind downtimes as much. They pay for Power-Users , its a mix-calculation.

Once upon a time I signed up to 1steuro, which offered unlimited hosting (not anymore though). Over night, the "MySQL Database" vanished from their site, and I had to fight long to cancel my order.

I went to http://domains.ARUBA.it, which costs 20-75 Dollars/Year, depending on the chosen service (Hosting & MySQL = about 35$).
They also offer "Unlimited" Traffic&Space, and as you can guess I was very sceptical at first.
They turned out to have great performance, even though my buddy hosts spamihilator.com there, which has a few Gigs of transfer each month, in the beginning he had several GByte a day.

I would sign up there again any time.
Only the Support has a few problems getting the info mails out in english, but they answer in english if you drop them a line.

Sorry not a scam

I use onedollarhost.net and its fine. I have over 150 mb of family pictures and movies and a small business on there and its fine. Part of you I feel think it is a scam because in business 99 times out of 100 if its to good to be true it is but one the other hand that means there are true deals out there and this is one. I do find thier customer service lacking but the sites always up so my use of them is minimal at best.
Now the other part of you guys against it seem to want to plug other sites you are happy with. Which on its own makes sense but hey if you buy a ford and its the greatest ever it doesn't make the KIA a scam.
Face it some people are on a budget and 12 bucks is better than 36+ for the same thing. IF I get scammed it would be the first to say I am wrong. People say my brutal honesty is almost a fault so I will "me" bash if they "scam" me. Till then I have had 6 months of great low cost service. Oh and they have a 30 plus dollar one time setup fee. But I had found a banner ad stating no startup costs and called them on it and got the startup cost waived. I noticed some saying there was no way to start up an account for 1 dollar. Thanks all get posts. And no I don't work for them.

I doubt you're using much bandwidth though... Start using 10GB/month and then we'll see about that unlimited bandwidth thing... ;)

Given the situation, that "Start Up Cost One Time $39.00 " actually makes it even worse.

We've had so many onedollarhost.net refugees sign up with our service. I'm glad you've had a positive experience, but you really haven't pushed your account.
A lot of people do take the unlimited bandwidth and space seriously, and try to use it...only to be let down. That's where the problem lies....where is the actual limit when it comes to unlimited :D
