Best and Worst host you've had experience with?

All right, here is my list of the WORST hosting companies that just made my life miserable during certain periods of my life:

1uhost.com
siteturn.com

And these BEST companies reflect the highest standards of the industry and provide superb customer satisfaction :mic: (I speak for myself):

WebHosting.com (I've been a customer of theirs for almost 2 years. It just got expensive once the web site started gaining popularity)
HostMatix.com (an extremely happy customer for the last 9 months).

What is your list?

I have had some real nightmare hosts.

The worst was a local dialup company.
I was just learning and learned the hard way.

Most internet connection companys are not good hosting companys.

The next worst was a place advertised "Be your own webhost"
What a joke.

The next one had a limited os that was basicly unusable for me.
So I leased another server with plain Redhat installed and built the system to my needs.

Then the security officer decided it had been hacked because it was not their normal system and replaced the boot drive with their normal limited system. :/

All my work was lost.

I switched hosts twice sence then.

I lease 2 dedicated servers now and plan to stay with them.

The best host I have had?

Me! LOL

Worst - hosting.com for Win2k dedicated and Unix shared

Best - aspn.us for Win2K dedicated
virtualbusinesslink.com for Unix dedicated
hostingcarolinas.com for shared unix

I have had to move all my sites once so far and, I hope I don't ever have to do it again!

BTW, I heard featureprice is closing down shop!

Really?? It has such a great domain name, services are so expensive and they seem to have all kinds of support in place... And with all that they are bad? How would one manage to be bad with all the money they got?

I once considered them, but chose WebHosting.com over Hosting.com.

They went on a buying spree and tried to integrate applications that they had little knowledge of and could not support. They fired all the people from the original companies that had developed the applications. Their support response time was terrible. Things may have improved by now but, the experience has left a bad taste in my mouth...

by far the worst treatment must go to primenet.cc hosting

You think you've had it tough listen to what these idiots at primenet.cc have done to me.

listen to their email that was sent to me after i closed my account with them. Mind you i had asked them to close my account two months earlier yet they would not respond. I found a better hosting provider with better support and services. After I closed my account with them I received this order from our webpages.

Can you believe this! anyway it doesn't end there, i get another email telling me that i will be billed the yearly hosting amount of $75 because i did not give them 60 days notice till 12/22/2003!! Forgetting the fact that I asked them to close my account in Aug, they have the audacity to threaten me with another invoice. These no good backyard punks!

AVOID PRIMENET.CC WHATEVER YOU DO, THE WORST, ABSOLUTELY THE WORST!!!!!

here's their other email to me.

Well that is just insane, really. Its hard to believe they have anywhere close to 9000 accounts...

And this table looks just like what RackShack had on their older site version: http://primenet.cc/dedicated.html

Anyway, I'm really glad you got away from them as it is never the way to treat your customers.

Good luck with your new host,

Worst Hosting Companies

1. racksmart.net
2. rackedge.com
3. e7web.com
4. poundhost.com

Best Webhosting companies.
1. http://www.1st-amendment.net - webhosting
2. http://www.glorb.com - colocation

and i'm obscenely picky about what I consider quality webhosting, just read my other posts regarding my bad experiences. The two quality web hosting companies I listed above go above and beyond to make you happy.

well the top place on the worst hosting company list must go to primenet.cc because they have just hacked into my new web host's server and removed our entire website files..

victorw: I saw this post by you on WHT as well...really sorry to hear about this. Amazing what level some people will stoop to. As for myself, I haven't been with that many hosts so I don't have too many stories. My previous host was someone a friend of mine found through WHT and recommended to me. Not bad at first, then it was hard to get ahold of them. I wasn't with them very long. When it took them over a month and a half to install my SSL Cert, I changed providers. I'm currently with Noc24 for the past month or so and will wait a little bit longer before I give a review. So far it hasn't been bad.

'Tis my first post here - so be gentle!

Has anyone had any experience with jiffynet.net? I've been looking at their offering and it seems very very affordable. Their response on email is pretty quick too.

Any ideas? Thoughts?

Cheers,
Af.

Ouch, that is really bad.

My worst host was 1t3.com I was charged over £250 for bandwidth fees, it was $25 for every GB over the limit. This is when I was 13 years old and I asked them what bandwidth was and didn't get a reply neither how much I could use.

Nothing pisses me off more than the fact that there are so many scoundrels out there in the web hosting business, people willing to rip you off at every turn. You would think with so many host options out there you could avoid this kind of stuff, but it seems to be more and more prevelant.

I had an absolute Nightmare experience with

Worst Hosting Companies on Earth!

1. racksmart.net
2. rackedge.com
3. e7web.com
4. poundhost.com

I think its time someone setsup a kind WebHostingBlacklist.com, if anyone wants to partner with me on a web hosting black list, I am more than eager. Ill buy the domain name, get it hosted and you put in the software infrastructure for people to post to it and share their bad experiences with web sites.

We need to have some kind of way where people can go to check out a hosting company before they sign up.

Let me know if anyone is interested.

Please be informed of the dirty business and strategy of ALLPROHOST.COM. They are thieves and they love to fool people esp. Filipinos. That company was formerly known as ACEWEBSERV.COM and my friend was a victim of their great marketing. They have this "special" package of 300mb $10/yr. However, they deactivated my friend's account! They're now telling her that she transact to a thief and that they won't honor it! However, 2checkout.com debited the said amount from her credit card and the payee was acewebserv.com. My friend paid for a yearly hosting package and it's only her fourth month of hosting. Now they want my friend to pay for another $10 for them (ACEWEBSERV.COM now ALLPROHOST.COM) to continue hosting her. Please spread the news! THIS IS NOT A RUMOR. This is absolutely true! Let's HELP my friend fight not only for her money but for principles. Remember, this can also happen to any of YOU here.

worst/best

Worst:
Wholemilk - Still charging my creditcard!(Cancelled 4 months ago, filed complaint with my bank and they fixed it.)
(Now out of business I believe)

Best:
None. (I run my own but that doesn't really count?)

here are my worst:

9netave - no longer in business...worst customer service ever
Verio - my billing was wrong every single bill ofr over a year
Interland - bad customer service and site often down

Best:

Still trying to find it

my worst hosting service was pennyhost.com . They have the ugliest and silly user interface taht i have ever seen.

Then from some forums I heard about newista.com.

At first I am confused because of the cheapest prices that I have ever seen  Then I wanted to try it. From that time i am very happy with their customer care and good prices. :D

I am having a terrible time with PUREHOST.COM. Avoid Purehost if at all possible.

I am a web master for a Christian church. Unfortunately, Appsite, a terrific hosting company, sold our account to Purehost. What a disaster. Our website has been down for four days this week because Purehost can't seem to figure out how to install the Front Page extenions on their servers. (By the way, when we migrated to Appsite from Dellhost, they installed the Front Page extensions while I was on the phone in 5 minutes!).

Everytime you call PUREHOST.COM it is a 20 minute wait and then no one seems to know how to solve any problems there. (Believe it or not, one of the people they have answering the phone in their call center is their human resource manager.) With Purehost, we have been unable to update our web site for four days now and there is no end in sight. In addtion, on Good Friday (a pretty important date for Christions) we had no Website at all. Its now the Saturday before Easter (another big day for Christians) . . . and here I am with no way to update our web site.

My advice avoid PUREHOST.COM
