8GB servers

My development team on another project I am involved in told me that if all goes as planned, we might require a dedicated server with around 8GB of RAM. My jaw dropped right that second. Just what price do these servers go for nowadays? :shaky:

PS: Do they even exist in traditional retail?

On the WHT very large offer section. You can look trough it to understand what prices are now and what to expect

hey bud well i am new here but, have you checked out Cogent? they go for 10$ a meg if you need help with it just Contact me..

Cogent doesn't offer dedicated servers, only internet access.

They are looking for a dedicated server, not just a line.

Hi Artashes,

Do you still in need of a dedicated server in Montreal ?

Thanks,

Hello,

I've always had really good luck with SoftLayer when it came to dedicated servers. I never had an issue with technical support or any of the normal issues you hear about. I went and looked around on SoftLayers website and this server https://www.softlayer.com/order_form/order.html?so_id=32&ITEM_PRICES[disk0]=19&ITEM_PRICES[server]=1013 for the price I really don't think its that bad. Also, if you are looking at an 8GB server. You should know that the website thats going to be hosted on it will pay for that server (hopefully). Keeps us up to date if you don't mind on whats happening. Thanks for sharing.

Okay, it's depend what type of CPU you need but if you want Quad core you can find from 140 to 190 bucks

Hannan, I don't think CPU matters much. I think that dual core would do the job just fine.
After all, we are on a VPS now from Spry and its functioning (though slowly).

You should check limestonenetworks.
You can get a quad core with 8gb of ram for less than $140 month.
The tricky part is that they don't offer any kind of "helpful" support since they are an unmanaged provider.

You might want to consider colocation, it is a rather big investment but it will payout in the long run and you wouldn't need to pay more per month when you wish to upgrade your servers.

Thing is - if its colocation, then something goes wrong with the server - you have to fix it. When you buy a dedicated server - hardware is covered by the company.

Volumedrive.com offers you 8 GB RAM at one time fee of $80 so you can get any server from them and add 8 GB RAM at one time payment this is good option according to me, if you run mission critical applications you can run a Quad Core or Xeon type proc with 8 GB from them
