The deal signals a shift toward tighter control of the data pipelines that feed emerging AI workloads, a priority that has gained urgency as businesses push to modernize their infrastructure.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"input-sentence~1\">According to people familiar with the discussions, the two companies first explored the idea over the summer during informal partner conversations. Those early exchanges eventually led Confluent to open a formal bidding process, with IBM securing the agreement. <\/span><span id=\"input-sentence~1\">Once the deal closes, <a href=\"https:\/\/hostingdiscussion.com\/news\/ibm-unveils-power11-with-ai-acceleration-zero-downtime-for-hybrid-cloud-workloads\/\">IBM<\/a> Software expects Confluent co founder Jay Kreps to join the division and report to Rob Thomas, reflecting the strategic role this acquisition plays in the company\u2019s broader software push.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"input-sentence~2\">Much of IBM\u2019s current direction has centered on building out a cloud and data platform that can carry the strain of artificial intelligence models, including newer agentic and generative systems.
