{"id":7683,"date":"2025-09-18T21:50:19","date_gmt":"2025-09-19T01:50:19","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hostingdiscussion.com\/news\/?p=7683"},"modified":"2025-09-18T21:07:01","modified_gmt":"2025-09-19T01:07:01","slug":"google-cloud-introduces-protocol-to-secure-ai-powered-transactions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hostingdiscussion.com\/news\/google-cloud-introduces-protocol-to-secure-ai-powered-transactions\/","title":{"rendered":"Google Cloud introduces protocol to secure AI-powered transactions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span id=\"input-sentence~0\"><a href=\"https:\/\/cloud.google.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Google Cloud<\/a> has introduced the <a href=\"https:\/\/cloud.google.com\/blog\/products\/ai-machine-learning\/announcing-agents-to-payments-ap2-protocol\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Agent Payments Protocol, or AP2<\/a>, to create a standard for how AI agents handle payments on behalf of users.<\/span> <span id=\"input-sentence~1\">The company worked with more than 60 organizations across Southeast Asia and international markets, including Airwallex, Shopee, Lazada, Razer, ZALORA, Mastercard, PayPal, and Coinbase.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"input-sentence~2\">The announcement comes at a time when artificial intelligence is starting to reshape the way money moves online.<\/span> <span id=\"input-sentence~3\">Until now, most payment systems assumed a person clicked the purchase button.<\/span> <span id=\"input-sentence~4\">AI agents change that assumption by initiating purchases directly, which raises new concerns about authorization, authenticity, and accountability.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"input-sentence~5\">Executives at <a href=\"https:\/\/hostingdiscussion.com\/news\/google-cloud-ceo-projects-53b-revenue-boost-as-ai-demand-fuels-contract-backlog\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">Google Cloud<\/a> say AP2 provides a foundation for answering those questions.<\/span> <span id=\"input-sentence~6\">By setting a common language for agent-to-merchant interactions, the framework allows systems to confirm that a user has granted permission, verify that an agent\u2019s request reflects real intent, and determine responsibility if something goes wrong.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"input-sentence~7\">Rao Surapaneni, Vice President and General Manager of Google Cloud\u2019s Business Applications Platform, described AP2 as an open and payment-agnostic framework that can handle credit cards, debit cards, real-time bank transfers, and even stablecoins.<\/span> <span id=\"input-sentence~8\">He added that it gives banks and financial institutions the clarity they need to manage risk.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"input-sentence~9\">Industry partners see the move as timely.<\/span> <span id=\"input-sentence~10\">Mark Micallef, Managing Director for Southeast Asia at <a href=\"https:\/\/hostingdiscussion.com\/news\/google-cloud-gains-ground-in-ai-infrastructure-as-revenue-jumps-28\/\">Google Cloud<\/a>, pointed out that the region generated $263 billion in gross merchandise value in 2024 across e-commerce, travel, and food delivery.<\/span> <span id=\"input-sentence~11\">Digital payments there are projected to surpass $2.1 trillion by 2030, making secure foundations essential for growth.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"input-sentence~12\">Other companies voiced support for the protocol as well.<\/span> <span id=\"input-sentence~13\">Mastercard\u2019s Chief Digital Officer Pablo Fourez noted the importance of advancing verifiable credentials with standards bodies such as the FIDO Alliance.<\/span> <span id=\"input-sentence~14\">Airwallex Co-Founder Jacob Dai said AP2 helps build confidence for businesses and consumers to delegate transactions to AI agents.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"input-sentence~15\">With AP2, Google Cloud and its collaborators aim to prevent the market from fracturing into competing systems.<\/span> <span id=\"input-sentence~16\">The objective is to keep the confidence as the AI powered trade grows, at the same time allowing the businesses, the networks, and the financial institutions to innovate within a stable and safe framework.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Google Cloud has introduced the Agent Payments Protocol, or AP2, to create a standard for how AI agents handle payments on behalf of users.
