{"id":7652,"date":"2025-09-15T23:13:41","date_gmt":"2025-09-16T03:13:41","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/hostingdiscussion.com\/news\/?p=7652"},"modified":"2025-09-15T22:53:03","modified_gmt":"2025-09-16T02:53:03","slug":"nvidia-scales-down-dgx-cloud-ambitions-amid-hyperscale-tensions","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/hostingdiscussion.com\/news\/nvidia-scales-down-dgx-cloud-ambitions-amid-hyperscale-tensions\/","title":{"rendered":"Nvidia scales down DGX Cloud ambitions amid hyperscale tensions"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span id=\"input-sentence~0\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Nvidia<\/a> is scaling down its vision for <a href=\"https:\/\/www.nvidia.com\/en-us\/data-center\/dgx-cloud\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">DGX Cloud<\/a>, a project once touted as a pathway into the broader cloud market but now largely redirected to serve its own research teams.<\/span> <span id=\"input-sentence~1\">The move comes after the service struggled to attract widespread adoption while creating unease among the very hyperscale partners that supply the infrastructure it relies on.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"input-sentence~2\">Launched as a cloud platform built on top of major providers like <a href=\"https:\/\/aws.amazon.com\/free\/?trk=1a6098c1-a0c2-4091-81ca-045ef1e52bbb&amp;sc_channel=ps&amp;ef_id=Cj0KCQjw8p7GBhCjARIsAEhghZ1Ier49BDe_f6kpjqX19EXxVVAqmANr01VTUfdJPDuqW8f-od8cdHYaAkISEALw_wcB:G:s&amp;s_kwcid=AL!4422!3!770486992781!e!!g!!aws!22922882296!182888007023&amp;gad_campaignid=22922882296&amp;gbraid=0AAAAADjHtp_CNlMXonEuMF6lgkZ-tAwP3&amp;gclid=Cj0KCQjw8p7GBhCjARIsAEhghZ1Ier49BDe_f6kpjqX19EXxVVAqmANr01VTUfdJPDuqW8f-od8cdHYaAkISEALw_wcB\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">AWS<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/www.google.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer nofollow\">Google<\/a>, DGX Cloud aimed to rent GPU power to enterprise customers who wanted ready access to Nvidia\u2019s hardware for AI development.<\/span> <span id=\"input-sentence~3\">The company even projected that such efforts could eventually generate more than $150 billion in revenue.<\/span> <span id=\"input-sentence~4\">Yet the reality has been more complicated.<\/span> <span id=\"input-sentence~5\">Customers often found it cheaper to work directly with the big cloud providers rather than through Nvidia, leaving DGX Cloud with limited traction.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"input-sentence~6\">The Information reported that Nvidia has stopped onboarding new customers and no longer highlights DGX Cloud in its earnings disclosures.<\/span> <span id=\"input-sentence~7\">Instead, the company has committed to using the platform internally, with executives describing it as a fully utilized environment for AI research and a collaborative space for optimizing compute stacks with partners.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"input-sentence~8\">\u201cDGX Cloud is a great success as a cloud for Nvidia\u2019s own AI research and development,\u201d said Alexis Black Bjorlin, who leads the initiative, disputing suggestions that the project has failed.<\/span> <span id=\"input-sentence~9\">She emphasized that demand remains strong inside Nvidia and that the company continues to expand its capacity.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"input-sentence~10\">Earlier this year, Nvidia introduced DGX Cloud Lepton, a marketplace designed to connect GPUs from providers including <a href=\"https:\/\/hostingdiscussion.com\/news\/nvidia-locks-6-3b-deal-with-coreweave-to-secure-ai-cloud-future\/\">CoreWeave<\/a>, SoftBank, and Yotta Data Services.<\/span> <span id=\"input-sentence~11\">Even though the action allowed new ways to get access, it still stirred up conflicts with those in the business of infrastructure who were concerned that Nvidia was going into their client base too much.<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span id=\"input-sentence~12\">The change represents the far side of the fence for Nvidia.<\/span> <span id=\"input-sentence~13\">Firstly, the company is still the main provider of GPUs that drive AI advancements.<\/span> <span id=\"input-sentence~14\">On the other, its attempts to play the role of cloud operator risk straining ties with the companies that make up much of its downstream demand.<\/span> <span id=\"input-sentence~15\">For now, DGX Cloud\u2019s future appears less about becoming a stand-alone revenue engine and more about supporting Nvidia\u2019s internal development and partner ecosystem.<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Nvidia is scaling down its vision for DGX Cloud, a project once touted as a pathway into the broader cloud market but now largely redirected to serve its own research teams.
