Launched by Larry Ellison\u2019s son, David, Skydance has deepened its ties to Oracle over the years. Now, with Ellison senior backing its roughly 8\u202fbillion dollar acquisition of Paramount Global, Oracle stands to gain what Bloomberg reports could be a 100\u202fmillion dollar per year deal\u2014covering video and audio content from CBS and MTV, and likely more.<\/p>\n

Skydance already spent around 2.2\u202fmillion on Oracle\u2019s infrastructure and platform services in fiscal 2024. Yet the potential Paramount<\/a> cloud deal would leap far past that number. The new contract would not only gear Oracle to handle massive media workloads but also provide streaming infrastructure as Paramount modernizes its systems. Save for regulatory hurdles\u2014the FCC still needs to green\u2011light the takeover\u2014the partnership may soon put Oracle on the hook for significantly scaling its services.<\/p>\n

Inside Oracle, the deal aligns with a growing portfolio of high\u2011stakes agreements. Just last month Oracle finalized a thirty\u202fbillion dollar per year commitment with OpenAI<\/a>. It also secured a major, though undisclosed, cloud platform deal with Chinese ecommerce giant Temu. Media insiders suggest that adding Paramount\u2019s archive and streaming operations to this roster would further solidify Oracle\u2019s grip on content\u2011focused cloud infrastructure.<\/p>\n

Of course, cloud media isn\u2019t new. AWS, Google, and Microsoft have long battled for streaming dominance, but Oracle\u2019s advantage now seems to lie in Ellison family synergy. This potential contract won\u2019t dethrone OpenAI<\/a> in scale, yet it signals a bolder strategy: Oracle is no longer a silent partner in media workflows. Instead it\u2019s stepping onto the stage as a key enabler of content distribution and transformation.<\/p>\n
