The AWS Premier Tier Partner named Currie as its new President this week, putting him in charge of go-to-market strategy across its AWS and managed cloud portfolio, with a specific mandate to drive expansion across both Canada and the US.

Currie isn’t new to this world. He’s built go-to-market strategy and led growth execution at several major names in the AWS partner ecosystem, including Onica, which later became part of Rackspace, Cloudreach under Atos, Wipro, and Nova. That kind of resume matters here specifically, since OpsGuru is trying to scale two things at once right now: its core AWS business and a growing AI practice built around Anthropic, Amazon Bedrock, and Amazon Bedrock AgentCore.

Ryan Smyth, OpsGuru’s CEO, said Currie’s experience building high-performing teams inside some of the most respected AWS partners made him the right fit at the right moment, particularly as the company works to build on its AWS momentum while expanding AI capabilities and pushing further into the US market.

Currie, for his part, pointed to OpsGuru’s combination of deep AWS expertise and AI capability, backed by the kind of operational maturity enterprise customers actually expect, as what drew him specifically. He said he couldn’t think of a better place to join right now, one that meets customers exactly where they’re already trying to innovate.

The appointment lands during a period of real reinvestment at OpsGuru. The company has been putting money into maintaining its AWS Premier Tier Partner status, building out AI delivery capabilities, and sharpening its focus on specific verticals, particularly financial services and energy, sectors where deep domain knowledge tends to matter as much as raw technical capability. OpsGuru plans to keep building out sales and delivery teams across both countries in the coming quarters, with new hires targeted at key hub markets meant to support growth on both sides of the border.

For a company trying to scale AI delivery on top of an already established AWS practice, bringing in someone with Currie’s specific background across multiple AWS partner environments looks less like a routine hire and more like a deliberate bet on execution experience over building from scratch.

Tim Currie has spent his career inside AWS partner companies watching how they grow, and now he’s the one deciding how OpsGuru grows next.
