Enterprise cloud spending just posted its 11th straight quarter of accelerating growth, and at this point the pattern is hard to describe as anything other than an AI-driven boom. Global spending on cloud infrastructure services climbed by more than $43 billion year over year in the second quarter of 2026, reaching $143 billion total, according to new research from Synergy Research Group<\/a>.<\/p>\n

What makes this streak notable isn’t just the raw dollar figure, it’s the consistency. The market has effectively doubled in size over roughly the same stretch these quarterly increases have been building, and generative AI<\/a> keeps showing up as the primary driver behind that growth.<\/p>\n

Amazon held onto its lead with 28% of the market, while Microsoft<\/a> and Google followed at 20% and 15% respectively, numbers that have stayed remarkably steady even as the overall market balloons. Below those three, Synergy tracked a group of what it calls tier-two providers, including CoreWeave<\/a>, OpenAI, Oracle, Crusoe, Nebius, Anthropic, and Nscale, all of which posted strong growth rates of their own during the quarter.<\/p>\n

Geographically, growth showed up almost everywhere, but a handful of markets stood out well above the global average: India, Indonesia, Ireland, Thailand, and Malaysia all outpaced the broader trend. The US remains the largest cloud market<\/a> by a wide margin and grew 49% in the quarter, itself above the worldwide average, while in Europe, Norway, Denmark, and Finland emerged as some of the fastest-growing markets on the continent.<\/p>\n

John Dinsdale, Synergy’s chief analyst, described the acceleration over the past few years, and especially the last four quarters, as genuinely remarkable. He pointed specifically to generative AI cloud services, which are growing at 165% year over year, as the clearest signal of where demand is concentrated. But he also noted something less obvious: AI isn’t just driving its own dedicated services, it’s improving functionality and boosting growth across a much wider range of existing cloud products too.<\/p>\n

Dinsdale also flagged that the US share of the global market has actually been increasing over the last two quarters, which he tied directly to the massive infrastructure buildout happening among both established hyperscalers and newer neocloud providers racing to keep pace with demand.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
