But the number that actually explains the quarter sits further down the release. GoDaddy ended June with 20.5 million customers, just 22,000 more than three months earlier. For a company that built its brand on being the world’s largest domain registrar, that’s about as close to flat as growth gets.

The release doesn’t explain why, and honestly, it doesn’t need to. Whether it’s a saturated small business market, churn canceling out new signups, or a deliberate pivot toward higher-value accounts, the quarter’s numbers didn’t depend on new customer growth anyway. Revenue climbed $80 million year over year because the customers GoDaddy already has are simply paying more.

That shows up clearly in one metric: average revenue per user hit $250 over the trailing twelve months, up from $230 a year earlier, an 8.7% jump. With customer count essentially flat, that increase in spending per customer isn’t one growth lever among several, it’s basically the only one doing real work right now. Marketing spend backs this up too. GoDaddy spent $89 million on marketing this quarter, down from $93.4 million a year ago, the kind of pullback a company makes when it’s leaning on existing customers rather than chasing new ones.

Inside the business, growth is split unevenly. Core Platform, which covers domains, hosting, and security, grew a modest 3.9% to $783.2 million. Applications and Commerce, the layer built on top with tools like website builders and payments, grew nearly three times faster at 11%, reaching $514.8 million and now accounting for almost 40% of total revenue at a hefty 46.8% margin. The pattern is straightforward: GoDaddy’s real profit engine isn’t the domain itself anymore, it’s everything customers attach to it afterward.

The bottom line benefited from more than just revenue growth, too. Operating income jumped 28.6%, and GoDaddy has repurchased $851.8 million worth of its own shares this year, shrinking its share count by 7%. That combination pushed diluted earnings per share up 30% to $1.83, far outpacing the underlying revenue growth.

Looking ahead, GoDaddy is leaning hard into AI as its next growth story. Its Airo product hit a $50 million annualized bookings run rate, five times what it reported just one quarter earlier, still small next to $5.2 billion in total revenue, but currently the fastest-growing thing GoDaddy has. The market’s initial reaction was cooler than the numbers might suggest, with shares dropping more than 7% in after-hours trading despite the quarter’s strength.

GoDaddy‘s second quarter looks solid on the surface: revenue up 6.6% to $1.298 billion, wider margins, guidance held steady.
